Resources for Researchers

Promoting DEI in Lab and Field

From the conception of a research question, to the dissemination of research results, researchers at all levels make decisions that have an impact on who does and does not benefit from research. Resources here include evidence-based strategies, toolkits, codes of conduct, trainings and best practices for improving diversity and advancing equity and inclusion at all stages of research.

Data and Findings Communication

A research endeavor that embraces equity and inclusion considers access to research data and research findings. The methods and means used for data collection, data sharing, analysis, retention and disposition; application of research results; and communication of research findings determine who benefits from the research and the knowledge it generates. These resources offer guidance for ensuring research practices advance inclusion and equity in research impact.

DEI Trainings

UO faculty, students and staff have access to a range of online trainings in diversity, equity and inclusion. DEI training promotes individual awareness and efficacy, helps create common ground among team members and contributes to the responsible and ethical conduct of research. These are just a few resources for finding free DEI resources for yourself, students, colleagues and/or team. The Division of Equity and Inclusion at UO also offers a robust central clearinghouse for resources and learning opportunities available to members of the UO community around diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.

Achieving Diversity in Research
This collection, assembled by Nature and Scientific American, includes a wide range of articles relating to the challenges and barriers that are encountered by underrepresented groups in science. Often written from the first-person perspective of the scientist, the articles not only offer the reader an opportunity to contemplate the lived experiences of colleagues who may encounter the field in a different way, they also provide practical solutions for institutions and colleagues to support diversity in research both in regards to the scientists conducting it and the participants they recruit.

What Does Inclusion Mean in the World of Research?

Featured in and inspired by the SAGE sponsored webinar “What Does Inclusion Mean in the World of Research,” this website offers a list of resources for promoting inclusion in research - from supporting researchers of diverse backgrounds, to designing, implementing, funding, and publishing findings of research projects that are more inclusive of those who have been underrepresented, unheard, and underprivileged.  Resources here come from funding agencies, nonprofit organizations/associations, journals and publishers. This space also invites members of the research community to share information and ideas about what can we learn from each other to enable new changes that address existing shortcomings in research.
